Employment in Cyprus’ broader public sector rose to 78,124 workers in the fourth quarter of 2025, an increase of 1.7% from a year earlier, the Statistical Service has said.

Employment in general government reached 73,006, while 5,118 people worked in government‑controlled companies and enterprises.

Within general government, the central government employed 55,215 people, nonprofit organizations 11,566 and local authorities 6,225.

Compared with the fourth quarter of 2024, central‑government employment increased by 550 workers, local authorities added 585 — largely due to staffing increases in the new district self‑government organizations — and government‑controlled companies added 152.
