FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – An interagency team of experts will visit the Republic of Cyprus this week for a technical review of its security procedures and operations.
The visit is part of an ongoing evaluation to determine whether Cyprus meets the stringent requirements for joining the United States Visa Waiver Program (VWP).
The VWP, a vital security partnership, enhances safety, strengthens economic ties, and facilitates legal travel to the U.S.
Eligible citizens of designated countries can visit the U.S. for business or tourism for up to 90 days without a visa.
The program is limited to countries with low nonimmigrant visa rejection rates, secure travel document systems, and close cooperation with U.S. law enforcement and security agencies.
The visit to Cyprus is a critical step in determining its readiness for VWP designation, which would bring mutual economic benefits and improve international travel safety.
