Mossad chief David Barnea will lead the Israeli delegation, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced Saturday.
This could be a sign of progress in negotiations for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip and an exchange of Israeli hostages and prisoners of war and Palestinian prisoners.
Previous negotiators have failed, with only one ceasefire in 15 months of war, lasting a week in late November 2023. Around 100 Israeli hostages were released in exchange for over 200 Palestinian prisoners.
Earlier in January, it was estimated that just under 100 hostages and prisoners remain in Gaza, of which around 60 are alive, according to Israeli sources.
