The Louvre Museum remained closed Monday following a weekend break-in in which masked thieves stole eight historic pieces of jewelry, authorities said.
According to prosecutors, four masked individuals broke into the museum early Sunday and made off with items including a tiara and an earring once belonging to Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense, as well as an emerald-studded piece linked to Napoleon’s wife, Marie-Louise.
The museum was evacuated shortly after the theft and remained closed for the rest of Sunday.
