FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The United States has reported 884 confirmed measles cases so far in 2025, marking a sharp increase compared to the 285 cases recorded in 2024, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The CDC has identified 11 measles outbreaks nationwide this year, defined as three or more related cases.

Confirmed cases span 30 U.S. jurisdictions, with 94 hospitalizations and three deaths attributed to the disease.

The agency stresses that vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent measles.

Two doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine provide strong protection against the virus.
