Nepal sees surge in climbers for spring season, earns $5.01M in royalties

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Nepal has granted climbing permits to 987 climbers from 105 groups this spring, representing 51 countries and regions, according to the Department of Tourism.

Among them, 328 males and 74 females have been approved to climb Mount Qomolangma, the world’s tallest peak at 8,848.86 meters.

The country has already collected $5.01 million in royalties from permits, with $4.35 million coming from Mount Qomolangma climbers.

Officials expect an increase in climbers compared to last year.

The spring climbing season runs from April through May.
