Monaco says it will end its “MaConsigne” reusable container scheme at the end of the year after more than three years of testing.
Launched in 2022 to cut single‑use plastic in restaurants and take‑away sales, the program promoted reusable packaging. Officials said the trial produced positive environmental and educational results but needs a new economic and operational model.
The government thanked restaurateurs, partners and users for their participation. The current system will close Dec. 31, 2025, with work underway on a redesigned version.
Authorities said the goal remains unchanged: to offer concrete, innovative and sustainable alternatives that reduce waste at the source and promote a circular economy.
