Consumers in Cyprus buying goods from outside the European Union will face a new €3 flat‑fee customs charge per item beginning July 1, 2026, under rules published by the European Commission and the Cyprus Customs Department.
The measure applies to all low‑value consignments worth up to €150 arriving from non‑EU countries.
It effectively ends the long‑standing exemption that allowed such parcels to enter the EU without customs duty until June 30, 2026.
The new system is part of a wider EU overhaul aimed at tightening controls on small parcels, improving revenue collection and reducing the widespread under‑declaration of value on goods ordered from online platforms.
Under the updated framework, every item entering the EU — regardless of its price — must now pass through a customs assessment. The €3 fee is designed as a temporary, simplified charge to keep processing times manageable while the new system beds in.
Authorities say the flat rate will remain in place until July 1, 2028.
After that, standard customs duties will apply based on the specific tariff category of each product, meaning charges will vary depending on the type of goods being imported.
