Nine Syrian nationals were placed in eight-day custody in Cyprus in connection with a case involving the facilitation and trafficking of irregular migrants, police announced Friday.
According to a statement from the Green Line Surveillance Division, officers intercepted 16 irregular migrants—also from Syria—on the main road near Peristerona. Among them were eight minors.
Authorities also identified three vehicles moving suspiciously in the area, which were found to be carrying the nine suspects.
The 16 migrants were transferred to the Pournara First Reception Center in Kokkinotrimithia for processing and support.
