Cyprus’s Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) reported record-breaking drug seizures over the past six months, with 613 kilograms of cannabis and nearly 40 kilograms of cocaine confiscated—double the amount compared to the same period last year.

Despite the surge in seizures, YKAN Chief Christos Andreou clarified that this does not necessarily indicate an increase in trafficking.

He attributed the results to intensified targeted operations at the Republic’s entry points, which he said have yielded substantial outcomes.

As part of its Early Intervention Program, YKAN also expanded its prevention efforts.

This year, 205 individuals aged 24 and under were referred to rehabilitation centers.
