One Kilo of Cannabis Seized; 22‑Year‑Old Arrested in Larnaca

A 22‑year‑old man has been arrested as part of ongoing efforts by the Cyprus Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) to identify and dismantle criminal groups involved in large‑scale drug trafficking.

At around 7 p.m., following evaluated intelligence, YKAN officers signaled a vehicle driven by a 23‑year‑old man to stop in an area of Larnaca.

Nearby, a 22‑year‑old man who was on foot fled upon seeing police. The driver also sped away, colliding with a police vehicle before escaping.

A short time later, officers located the 23‑year‑old’s vehicle. During a second attempt to stop him, he again managed to flee after repeatedly ramming police cars.

A search of the area led to the discovery and seizure of a nylon package containing approximately one kilogram of cannabis.

The 22‑year‑old suspect was later found on a Larnaca street and arrested after officers located a precision scale with cannabis residue in his possession. A search of his vehicle uncovered an additional 10 grams of cannabis.

Two YKAN officers were injured during the collisions — a male officer sustained a double fracture to his arm, while a female officer suffered a neck injury and bruising. Two police vehicles sustained extensive damage.

The 22‑year‑old appeared before the Larnaca District Court on Friday, which issued an eight‑day remand order.

The case is being investigated by YKAN’s Larnaca unit.
