Police are warning the public about scammers posing as officers and stealing money from victims.
According to the statement, a 52‑year‑old Nicosia resident answered a video call from an unknown person on a social‑media app. The caller falsely claimed to be contacting him on behalf of the Migration Department to handle a supposed procedure.
The scammer showed a fake police ID and convinced the man to hand over personal information and his bank account details, leading to a significant financial loss.
Police say they never contact citizens in this manner.
