FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Mobile phone users in Cyprus have until Nov. 10 to register any prepaid SIM cards not currently linked to their name, or risk losing service.

The mandatory identification rule, passed in April 2024, was reviewed Thursday by the House Transport Committee, where telecom providers briefed lawmakers on the progress of the registration campaign.

Committee Chair Marinos Mousiouttas said that out of 420,000 active prepaid SIM cards, only 66,000—just 16%—have been registered so far, leaving roughly 360,000 unverified.

The process is free and does not require a change of number or SIM card. Users can complete registration either in-store or online through their provider’s website.

Failure to comply by the deadline will result in full deactivation of services, including calls, texts, and mobile data
