Pope Francis is hospitalized in Rome for treatment of a respiratory infection. He was admitted on Friday and has slept well and eaten breakfast, according to his spokesman.
“I still need treatment for bronchitis,” Pope Francis said in a written statement, regretting having to cancel a mass at the Vatican on Sunday. Pope Francis is 88 years old, and doctors have prescribed complete rest.
Further treatment status will be assessed over the next few days.
