FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Trump administration has directed the U.S. military to develop “military options” to ensure unrestricted American access to the Panama Canal, according to reports from NBC and CNN, citing a memo from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
President Donald Trump has threatened to reclaim the Panama Canal, alleging that China has too much influence.
Both China and Panama have denied the claim.
The Panama Canal, stretching 82 kilometers from north to south in Panama, is one of the world’s most crucial trade routes, allowing ships to bypass the lengthy journey around South America.
