Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar condemned what he called a “tyrannical Greek Cypriot mentality” following the resignation of British MP Afzal Khan, who faced backlash over an unauthorized visit to the breakaway north of Cyprus.
In a written statement from the Turkish Cypriot-administered north, Tatar said the pressure leading to Khan’s resignation was a warning sign for those who believe in democracy and equality. He confirmed that Khan, a British lawmaker of Pakistani origin, had visited the north at Tatar’s invitation.
Tatar accused the Greek Cypriot leadership of exploiting the internationally recognized status of the Republic of Cyprus to isolate Turkish Cypriots and silence their voices on the global stage.
