Heavy spring rainfall pushed Türkiye’s hydropower generation to an all‑time monthly high in April.
Hydroelectric plants produced 11.66 billion kilowatt‑hours of electricity during the month, supplying 41.4% of the country’s total power output, according to ministry data.
Generation from January through April reached 34.7 billion kWh — the highest level ever recorded for the first four months of a year.
The Turkish State Meteorological Service said April precipitation averaged 86.5 millimeters, 50% above the 1991–2020 norm and 19% higher than last year.
Recent heavy rains have filled reservoirs across the country, with several dams reaching capacity and releasing water through spillways as a flood‑prevention measure.
