Two dead, three injured after building collapse in Limassol; search efforts continue

Two people were killed and three others injured when part of a three‑storey building collapsed in the Potamos Germasogeias area of Limassol on Sunday, police said. Search‑and‑rescue teams are continuing to comb the debris for any additional victims.

The collapse was reported around 1:40 p.m. Police cordoned off the area and rescue crews from the Fire Service, EMAK, Civil Defence and other agencies were dispatched to the scene.

Several residents were inside the apartments at the time. They were pulled from the rubble by rescuers. Three were injured and taken to Limassol General Hospital and a private clinic. A 32‑year‑old man suffered a head laceration, multiple abrasions and a minor intracranial hemorrhage, while a 29‑year‑old man sustained abrasions and a scalp hematoma. Both remain hospitalized. A second 32‑year‑old man was treated and discharged.

Late Sunday afternoon, the bodies of two people were recovered from the wreckage. Their identities have not yet been officially confirmed.

Investigators from Limassol CID are taking statements as part of the probe into the cause of the collapse.
