FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Colin Stewart, the United Nations secretary-general’s special representative for Cyprus and head of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), is expected to complete his tenure on the island this summer, according to reports.
Stewart, a Canadian diplomat, assumed the role in late 2021, succeeding Elizabeth Spehar.
His retirement would mark the end of his service in Cyprus, with discussions already underway regarding his successor.
Local media reports indicate Stewart has concluded his mission and is set to retire, making Cyprus his final posting.
The transition process for appointing a new UN envoy for Cyprus has begun, though no official announcement has been made regarding Stewart’s replacement.
