French President Emmanuel Macron will arrive in Cyprus later for the first official visit by a French head of state since the Republic of Cyprus was founded, government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said in a written statement.
Letymbiotis said the visit marks a milestone in bilateral relations and underscores that Cyprus and France act as strategic partners with shared principles and a common commitment to cooperation in support of stability, security and peace in Europe and the wider region.
President Nikos Christodoulides and Macron will hold a private meeting at the Presidential Palace before leading expanded talks between the two delegations.
Discussions are expected to focus on the implementation of the Strategic Partnership and on strengthening cooperation in energy, defense and regional security. Talks will also cover issues on the EU agenda and coordination during Cyprus’ presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Christodoulides will brief Macron on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue and on efforts by the UN Secretary‑General.
