The Cypriot government views any engagement with the United Nations as positive, saying such contacts can help create conditions for the resumption of negotiations on the Cyprus issue, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said Monday.
Speaking on state radio, Letymbiotis commented on the upcoming February 11 meeting in New York between the UN Secretary‑General and the newly elected Turkish Cypriot leader.
He also confirmed that President Nikos Christodoulides has formally submitted a proposal for the recording of existing convergences in the Cyprus talks, describing it as an effort to facilitate the restart of negotiations.
The proposal, he added, has not yet been adopted or accepted by the Turkish Cypriot side.
