Police in Nicosia are investigating a new case of online fraud after a man reported receiving a call from an unknown individual who claimed to be an employee of an online financial transactions and payments platform.
Under false pretenses about the security of the victim’s account, the caller convinced him to install a specific app on his mobile phone, along with several money‑transfer applications. The scammers then withdrew more than €9,000.
Police are again urging the public to be extremely cautious and to avoid giving sensitive personal information to unknown callers.
