AKROTIRI, Cyprus — The British Bases at Akrotiri will carry out controlled explosions as part of scheduled demolition work, urging the public not to be alarmed.
In a statement issued Monday, base officials said the demolition activities involving explosives will take place from Sept. 29 to Oct. 3, and again from Oct. 6 to Oct. 10. The blasts are scheduled twice daily between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Authorities noted that explosions may be heard from a considerable distance, depending on weather, wind, and other atmospheric conditions.
