A coalition of organizations has launched a bold campaign against British military bases in Cyprus, accusing them of enabling Israel’s actions against Palestinians.
As reported by the Famagusta Gazette, the UK-US: Bases Off Cyprus campaign was announced during a webinar earlier this week, following reports of British spy planes involved in Gaza.
Matt Kennard, former head of investigations at Declassified UK, opened the event, revealing research that prompted the campaign.
He described RAF Akrotiri, a British base in Cyprus, as a “central node in the Anglo-American empire” controlling the Middle East.
The campaign also launched a petition to the ICC, demanding British surveillance footage over Gaza to assess its role in aiding Israeli war crimes.
Matthew Stavrinides of Genocide-Free Cyprus criticized the Cyprus government for allowing British spy planes, accusing the president of prioritizing military ties over accountability.
