A Royal Air Force Typhoon aircraft from 11 Squadron part of the Expeditionary Air Wing (EAW), on the tarmac at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus.

A drone struck the United Kingdom’s Akrotiri air base in Cyprus shortly after midnight, causing limited damage but no injuries, government officials said Monday. A second flying object was intercepted, according to several media sources on the island.

Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said in a statement that information received from multiple channels indicated the incident involved an unmanned aircraft that caused “limited‑scale damage.”

He said security protocols were activated immediately and that Cypriot authorities remain in constant coordination with both the British government and the administration of the British Bases.

Letymbiotis said the National Security Council is in continuous session under the chairmanship of President Nikos Christodoulides.

A spokesperson for Britain’s Ministry of Defence also confirmed the strike, saying British forces had responded to an incident at Akrotiri but did not provide details on the extent of the damage or whether any further threats were detected.

Shortly before the strike, British personnel stationed at Akrotiri were notified electronically that an attack was possible and were instructed to remain indoors with their families.

Cypriot officials said early assessments suggest the drone did not originate from Iranian territory due to the distance involved. Indicators point to the possibility of a Hezbollah operation, as the timing coincided with other attacks launched by the Lebanese group.
