Cyprus: Limassol and Paphos carnivals kick off today amid cheer and mild weather

The much-anticipated Limassol and Paphos Carnivals kick off today, promising a vibrant display of culture, colour, and community spirit.

Both cities are set to come alive with parades, music, and festivities that celebrate the rich heritage and joyous spirit of Cyprus.

The Limassol Carnival, a tradition with roots tracing back to ancient Dionysian festivities and Venetian influences, begins today with a series of exciting events. See the official programme here

The celebrations will start at 10:00 AM with carnival fiestas in front of Hellenic Bank and Bank of Cyprus. The day will be filled with serenades, DJ music, and dance at Saripolou Square, followed by a grand parade through the streets of Limassol at 7:00 PM.

King Confetti will make his grand entrance, accompanied by the Batukinio percussion band, setting the stage for a night of revelry.

Over in Paphos, the carnival festivities also commence today, with the grand parade scheduled for March 1, 2025.

The Paphos Carnival, known for its unique charm and vibrant atmosphere, will feature a procession led by the carnival king and queen, followed by a series of events over the next 10 days. The streets of Paphos will be filled with music, dance, and colorful costumes, creating an unforgettable experience for all attendees.

The weather for today is expected to be mild and mostly cloudy, with occasional light rain showers in some areas. In Limassol, temperatures will range from a high of 15°C (59°F) to a low of 9°C (48°F), with a gentle breeze from the west. Paphos will experience similar conditions, with temperatures ranging from a high of 16°C (61°F) to a low of 10°C (50°F).
