FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus ranks among the top ten European countries for judicial independence, with minimal reports of corruption or external interference, according to a 2025 survey by the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary.

The biennial study, which gathered responses from 19,136 judges across 30 countries, found that Cyprus scored highly in both personal and institutional perceptions of judicial autonomy.

The findings were presented by the Supreme Court, which emphasized the country’s strong standing in safeguarding the impartiality of its legal system.

The ENCJ, a non-profit body representing judicial councils in EU member states, aims to promote the independence and effective administration of justice.

While the report noted challenges in implementing government decisions, Cyprus’s judiciary was praised for its resilience and integrity.
