FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — Cyprus Fire Service responded to 48 incidents nationwide over the last 24 hours, including 28 fires, 19 special service calls, and one false alarm, authorities said.
At 06:16 Wednesday, crews from the Lakatamia Fire Station responded with two engines to a blaze at a food shop in Engomi.
The fire, which was brought under control by 06:47, caused minor damage to wooden paneling and wall coatings. Officials believe the fire was sparked by an electrical malfunction.
At 16:24, a wildfire broke out near the Panagia Makedonitissa church in Engomi, Nicosia.
Five fire engines from across the district, aided by a SupportCY volunteer team vehicle, battled the flames, which were contained by 19:25. The fire scorched roughly two hectares of dry grass, wild vegetation, waste piles, and several palm trees. The cause is under investigation.
Later, at 17:42, firefighters assisted in rescuing a person trapped on rocks near the sea caves in Ayia Napa. The operation was coordinated by the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC).
At 23:21, two fire trucks from the Agios Nikolaos Station in Limassol extinguished a car fire in an apartment complex parking area. The vehicle suffered extensive damage, and a nearby parked car was also affected. Authorities will investigate the cause in collaboration with other agencies.
Finally, at 01:24 early Thursday, Lakatamia firefighters responded to another car fire in a field in Tseri. The blaze, brought under control by 01:45, caused significant damage to the vehicle. Police are assisting in the investigation.
