FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Romania’s Election Directorate has disqualified far-right leader Calin Georgescu from participating in the upcoming presidential election in May.
Georgescu, who gained prominence after unexpectedly winning the first round of the annulled presidential election last year, faced allegations of Russian interference in his campaign. The Constitutional Court had previously invalidated the election results, citing irregularities.
The decision to bar Georgescu is not final and can be appealed to the Constitutional Court.
Georgescu’s supporters have expressed outrage, with protests erupting outside the election bureau. The controversy continues to stir debate over democracy and foreign influence in Romania.
