Fatah’s Revolutionary Council says the movement will hold its eighth general conference on May 14, its first since 2016.
The council called the gathering both an organizational requirement and a political necessity.
The conference had originally been scheduled for Dec. 17, 2023, but was postponed after the war in Gaza erupted on Oct. 7 that year.
Fatah last convened its general conference in late 2016 in Ramallah, where it elected new leadership bodies. If held as planned, the upcoming session would be only the third to take place inside the Palestinian territories.
The council also agreed to reinstate some previously expelled members on a case‑by‑case basis, excluding those accused of crimes against Palestinians or facing unresolved legal issues.
Under Fatah’s internal rules, the general conference is meant to convene every five years to set political and military programs and elect the movement’s decision‑making bodies.
