January saw a significant boost in tourism for Cyprus, with a whopping 27.4 percent increase compared to the same month last year, according to Alithia newspaper. The standout statistic: Israeli tourists led the charge.
Last year, 87,961 tourists landed at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
This January, that number soared to 112,100. Among them, 23,704 were from Israel, making them the largest group of visitors.
Following them were 18,701 tourists from England, 15,791 from Poland, and 11,288 from Greece.
The reasons for visiting? A majority (56.4 percent) came for a vacation, 24.5 percent visited friends or relatives, and 19 percent were on professional trips.
The most popular air route from Israel to Cyprus is from Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) in Tel Aviv to Larnaca. The average flight time for this route is approximately 1 hour and 4 minutes, but is often completed in around 45 minutes.
Tus Airways, El Al, Wizz Air, Israir, and Arkia all run frequent services on this route.
Famagusta Gazette recently reported that based on the results of the Passengers Survey carried out by the Statistical Service, revenue from tourism reached €138,7 mn in November 2024, recording an increase of 22,0% as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (€113,7 mn).
For the period of January-November 2024, revenue from tourism is estimated at €3.122,5 mn compared to €2.916,3 mn in the corresponding period of 2023, recording an increase of 7,1%
