FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Afghanistan’s High Commission for Addressing Returnees Problems reported that 1,667 Afghan families, totaling 8,090 individuals, returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan on last weekend.
The arrivals occurred through border crossings in Nangarhar, Kandahar, Herat, and Nimroz provinces.
The commission has been providing temporary shelters, food, water, medical care, and transportation services to aid the returnees.
According to the UNHCR, nearly 120,000 Afghan refugees returned from Pakistan between April 1 and April 24.
An estimated 7 million Afghan refugees live abroad, with the majority residing in Pakistan and Iran.
