FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A nationwide survey conducted by the Asahi Shimbun revealed that 68% of Japanese respondents believe their country should adopt a more independent diplomatic stance from the U.S., while 24% favor aligning with U.S. intentions.
Regarding U.S. defense commitments to Japan, only 15% of respondents expressed confidence, while 77% were skeptical.
Additionally, 54% of respondents doubted the U.S.’s ability to maintain global peace, and 54% did not view American democracy as a model for other nations. The survey highlighted that “America First” policies under President Donald Trump have contributed to perceptions of U.S. reliability.
The survey included 3,000 randomly selected voters across Japan and had a 63% response rate, reflecting diverse views on diplomacy and global relations.
