Albanians living abroad and temporary migrant workers sent home about €2.1 billion in 2024, according to new Eurostat data.
Roughly €1.4 billion came from European Union countries, while about €670 million originated from nations outside the bloc.
The total was up 12% from 2023 — an increase of €224 million — and about €430 million higher than in 2022.
Eurostat said the flows consist mainly of personal transfers from emigrants to their families, as well as income earned by Albanian workers employed temporarily abroad, including seasonal labor, before taxes and social contributions are deducted.
Measured against the size of the economy, Albania ranked third in Europe for remittances as a share of GDP, at about 5.1%.
Only Bosnia‑Herzegovina, at 7.6%, and Serbia, at 5.4%, recorded higher ratios.
