FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar officially launched his campaign for re-election Monday, gathering support from the three political parties that make up the ruling coalition in the north.

Tatar, who is seeking a second term in the October election, has received endorsements from the National Unity Party, the Democratic Party and the Rebirth Party. His campaign has focused on advocating for a two-state solution in Cyprus and strengthening ties with Türkiye.

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which Tatar leads, is recognized only by Türkiye.

Tatar and Türkiye have pushed for broader diplomatic recognition, securing observer status in the Organization of Turkic States, a move Tatar praised.

Efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue remain stalled, with Türkiye and the Turkish Cypriot administration favoring a two-state approach, while Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration advocate for a federal solution. The Turkish Cypriot administration depends on Türkiye for economic, military and political support.
