Two men are set to appear before the SBA Court in Dhekelia on March 3, charged with theft after their arrest earlier this month in Ormidhia, authorities said.

A Greek Cypriot and a Greek national were brought before the court following their February 3 arrest, when officers on patrol found them outside a fenced‑off area containing decommissioned buses.

Police said the pair were in possession of bus parts that had been removed and loaded into their vehicle. The stolen items are valued at €10,000 and were allegedly intended to be sold as scrap.

Temporary Superintendent Marcos Petrou praised the officers’ work, saying the case highlights the police’s commitment to tackling scrap‑metal theft. “We are taking this case very seriously and they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he said.

The men were also found with a small quantity of Class A drugs, believed to be for personal use.
