Cyprus — Two women were remanded in custody by the Limassol District Court after allegedly defrauding Greek Cypriot property owners of more than €150,000 by promising rapid compensation and sale of their assets in the north of Cyprus.

The suspects, aged 44 and 53, reportedly targeted displaced Greek Cypriots between October 2023 and May 2025.

According to police, the younger woman posed as a lawyer and convinced victims that their properties—mainly in the Famagusta area—could be appraised and sold through the Immovable Property Commission (IPC).

She allegedly demanded repeated payments for her services, collecting over €159,000, partly in cash and partly via Revolut transfers.

Victims were pressured with threats that failure to pay would result in losing previously paid amounts. Those who demanded refunds were redirected to the older accomplice, who reassured them that the process was ongoing.

Authorities are investigating whether the 44-year-old is a licensed attorney and have contacted the Cyprus Bar Association and the bicommunal Contact Group. Police have also taken 16 statements and are preparing to involve Interpol to trace the financial transactions.
