FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A 10-member team of wildfire experts from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is scheduled to arrive in Cyprus to assist in reviewing the response to the deadly Limassol fire.

President Nikos Christodoulides requested U.S. assistance after reviewing four internal reports submitted by the police, fire service, forestry department and civil defense regarding the July 23 blaze.

The experts are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the fire, evaluate the response, and offer recommendations.

The Limassol blaze was one of the worst in Cyprus’s history, burning over 120 square kilometers and claiming two lives.
