FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A 69-year-old man was sentenced Tuesday to 10 months in prison after being convicted of causing a fatal road collision in Limassol.

Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 4:50 a.m. on April 1, 2023, on Omonia Avenue. The man was driving a car that struck and fatally injured 52-year-old pedestrian Chrysostomos Chrysostomou, who was walking near the curb and appeared to be attempting to cross the road.

Police said the vehicle entered the opposite lane under circumstances that remain under investigation.

Chrysostomou was transported to Limassol General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The driver was arrested pursuant to a court warrant and held in custody. Police said breathalyzer and narcotics tests administered at the scene showed zero readings.

The court imposed eight penalty points on the defendant’s license and suspended his driving privileges for three months, starting from his release.
