FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Cypriot government has praised United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres for his continued commitment to resolving the Cyprus issue, welcoming his decision to convene a third expanded conference on the matter.

Speaking to CyBC shortly before departing New York, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said signs of progress were evident, prompting Guterres’ personal envoy to continue mediation efforts.

Letymbiotis noted the significance of reaffirmed support from the UN Secretary-General, UK Minister for Europe, and Greece’s Foreign Minister for Security Council resolutions and the form of a negotiated solution.

He said the meeting included extensive discussions on crossing points between the island’s north and south. Proposals were submitted by Guterres and the Cypriot President, including a new passage from Athienou to Aglantzia. However, the Turkish side rejected the proposal during the meeting.
