FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The left-wing AKEL party has raised concerns over Cyprus’ energy sector, citing public discussions on a potential electricity price hike by the Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC). The party criticized government policies, arguing that Cypriot society is paying the price for years of mismanagement and inaction.

According to AKEL, Cyprus now ranks as the second most expensive country in the European Union for electricity, relative to citizens’ purchasing power.

The party blamed both the previous Anastasiades-DISY administration for “criminal mistakes and ulterior motives” and the current government for “poor planning” regarding the introduction of natural gas for power generation.

AKEL claims this failure has led to increased costs for households and businesses due to pollution-related expenses.
