LARNACA — Five suspects accused of attempted murder and arson in Pyla have been referred to stand trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca on Oct. 29.
The charges stem from an incident on Aug. 14, when a security guard was shot and four rental cars were set on fire along the Larnaca–Dhekelia highway near Pyla.
Police say the suspects include two 17-year-olds, one of whom allegedly fired at the guard and another believed to have driven the getaway vehicle.
A 23-year-old is suspected of setting the vehicles ablaze, while a 27-year-old allegedly provided the car used in the attack. A 44-year-old inmate is also implicated.
Four of the suspects face charges including conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, arson, illegal possession of firearms and explosives, and handling stolen property.
The fifth suspect faces charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and handling stolen goods.
An 18-year-old who admitted to stealing the vehicle used in the attack was not included in the indictment but faces separate charges related to car thefts in Limassol and Paphos.
Police recovered the suspected getaway vehicle and four pistols found in a shed in the Nicosia district. Forensic tests are pending.
