FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — Police are investigating a new case of online fraud involving €434,000, following a complaint filed by a 53-year-old man with the Cybercrime Division.

According to the report, the man was deceived between April 2024 and January 2025 by an unknown individual who persuaded him—via online communication—to invest in cryptocurrency.

He transferred a total of $508,893 (approximately €434,890) to various bank accounts and digital wallets before realizing he had been scammed.

In response, police urged the public to exercise caution when conducting financial transactions online. Authorities advised working only with licensed firms and certified advisors for any investment activity.

They also stressed the importance of protecting sensitive information, including bank account details, card numbers, login credentials, and personal data, and warned against sharing such information with third parties.
