Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides said Tuesday that European Union protocols must be followed in full to contain the foot‑and‑mouth outbreak affecting livestock across the island.
Asked whether he would accept a request from a group of livestock farmers to meet with him, Christodoulides said no such meeting has been scheduled.
He added that problems persist because some individuals continue to ignore the required protocols. “As long as this happens, the foot‑and‑mouth problem will continue to trouble all of us,” he said.
Christodoulides noted that he has been involved with the issue from the outset and said the government will continue supporting livestock farmers as authorities work to address the challenges.
He also appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate in order to achieve a coordinated response to the situation.
