FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Complaints about conditions in state hospitals in Cyprus have been addressed in Parliament where it was confirmed the overpayment of a retired doctor who continued to receive salary and benefits totaling 65,000 euros for seven months after retiring in April 2024.
Legal action is being taken.
A second complaint involves Limassol Hospital, where a broken washing machine led authorities to ask patients’ relatives to bring their own sheets.
Soiled linens were sent to Nicosia Hospital for cleaning. There were also reports of poor conditions at Larnaca Hospital, including uncleanliness and rickety doors.
The Health Committee Chairman criticized the continued mismanagement in the National Health Service.
In response to a complaint about cleaning dialysis machines with baby wipes at Limassol Hospital, OKYPY, the State Health Services Organization, confirmed that only certified disinfection cloths are used.
AKEL, the opposition party, criticized the current and previous governments for the state of the health service.
Despite the complaints, all parties recognized the dedication of medical, nursing, and paramedical staff in public hospitals.
