Motorists have until midnight to renew their 2026 road‑tax licences, authorities have reminded.
After 31 March, renewals will carry a €10 surcharge, along with an additional charge equal to 10% of the vehicle’s annual road‑tax fee — the amount owed for the current year.
Officials have urged drivers to complete the process on time to avoid penalties.
Cyprus’ road‑tax system is based primarily on a vehicle’s engine size and emissions, with newer, lower‑emission cars generally paying less than older or higher‑polluting models. Fees are typically paid annually or in two installments, and failure to renew on time can result in fines and, in some cases, police action if a vehicle is found circulating without a valid licence.
Revenue from road‑tax payments is used to support road maintenance, infrastructure and transport‑related services. Authorities routinely issue reminders in the weeks leading up to the deadline, noting that late renewals create administrative backlogs and leave drivers at risk of penalties.
Officials have urged motorists to complete the process promptly to avoid additional charges.
