A livestock farmers’ association in Cyprus said Tuesday it is satisfied with most of the government’s decisions on managing foot-and-mouth disease but opposes plans for additional animal culls.
Neofytos Neofytou, head of the group Voice of Livestock Farmers, said nearly 7,000 goats and sheep are slated to be killed under the new measures, which he called unacceptable.
He said President Christodoulides was positive and decisive on other issues raised by farmers. On the Green Line, Neofytou said the president gave clear instructions to step up efforts against smuggling and increase checks at legal crossing points.
