NICOSIA — The Goethe-Institut Cyprus will host a three-part film and discussion series this fall exploring themes of family, belonging and memory.

Titled GoetheKino: Questions of Family, the screenings will take place on the last Wednesday of each month at the Goethe-Institut in Nicosia. Each event will feature a German-language film with English subtitles, followed by a moderated discussion in English.

The series opens Sept. 24 with All About Me (Der Junge muss an die frische Luft), a biographical drama about German comedian Hape Kerkeling’s childhood. Film scholar Olga Kourelou and comedian Constantinos Psillides will lead the post-screening discussion.

On Oct. 29, the institute will screen Good Bye, Lenin!, a tragicomedy set during German reunification. Kourelou will be joined by documentary filmmaker Mine Balman to discuss the film’s portrayal of loyalty and social change.

The final screening on Nov. 26 will feature Beyond Silence (Jenseits der Stille), a drama about a young girl growing up with deaf parents. Kourelou will be joined by Panayiota Themistokleous, a Cypriot sign language interpreter and CODA, to reflect on the film’s themes of communication and independence.

All events begin at 7 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, visit goethe.de/cyprus or contact the institute at +357 22 674606.
