A shallow low‑pressure system and a relatively cold air mass are affecting Cyprus, with another weak system expected on Tuesday, the Meteorological Department said.
Cloudy skies on Monday will bring local showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly over the western half of the island, before conditions gradually improve in the afternoon. Hail is possible in storms, and snow is expected on the highest peaks of Troodos.
Southwest to northwest winds will be strong to very strong inland, at 5 to 6 Beaufort, and up to near‑gale along the coast at 7 Beaufort, with gusts reaching 8 to 9 Beaufort in places. Winds will ease by late afternoon to strong or very strong. Seas will be rough at times. Temperatures will reach 18°C inland, around 19°C on the coasts and 8°C in the higher mountains.
Tonight, periods of increased cloud cover may produce an isolated shower. Winds will remain southwest to northwest at light to moderate strength, 3 to 4 Beaufort. Seas will be moderate to rough. Temperatures will fall to 8°C inland, 13°C on the west coast, around 11°C elsewhere and 3°C in the higher mountains, where frost may form.
On Tuesday, skies will be partly cloudy with isolated afternoon showers, mainly in the mountains and the southeast. Local cloud on Wednesday may bring isolated afternoon rain, mostly in the mountains. Thursday is expected to be mostly clear.
Temperatures will rise slightly on Tuesday and continue climbing through Thursday, returning to seasonal averages.
