Low pressure and unstable weather conditions continue to affect Cyprus, bringing periods of cloud, rain and isolated thunderstorms, the Meteorological Department said Tuesday.

Forecasters said skies will be partly cloudy early in the day, with isolated showers mainly along the coast. Rain and isolated storms are expected to develop around midday, especially in the mountains, inland areas and the north. Hail is possible in storms, and snow or sleet may fall on the highest peaks of Troodos.

Winds will start light and variable, around 3 Beaufort, becoming mainly southerly to southwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort. Seas will be calm to slightly rough. Temperatures will reach 19 degrees Celsius inland and on the coasts, and 7 degrees in the higher mountains.

Cloudy conditions will continue overnight, with isolated showers and a chance of thunderstorms, mainly in coastal areas and later in the mountains. Hail is again possible, and snow or sleet may fall on the highest peaks. Patchy fog may form inland and in the east before dawn. Winds will remain light, and seas calm to slightly rough. Temperatures will drop to 6 degrees inland, 10 on the coasts and around 1 degree in the higher mountains, where frost is expected.

On Wednesday, skies will be partly cloudy at first with isolated showers, becoming mostly cloudy later with local rain and isolated storms in the mountains, inland and the north. Hail is possible, and snow or sleet may fall on the highest peaks.

Thursday will bring intervals of cloud with isolated showers or a storm, mainly after midday, before improving late in the day. Friday will see periods of increased cloud and strengthening westerly winds.

Temperatures will remain slightly below average through Thursday, with a small rise expected on Friday.
